If you are deciding on getting a new putter but are stuck between a Scotty Cameron and a Bettinardi, you’ve come to the right place. I did the research to give you a good idea of what each offers to make your decision process faster.

I looked at factors of price, availability, and brand popularity to give you the best gauge as to which brand is best for you.

Difference In Price Between Scotty Cameron and Bettinardi

When looking at their online shop, one main difference that I noticed between these two brands is in their price range. While both are quite expensive, Bettinardi generally offers a cheaper range of putters in their main shop. While Bettinardi does have a couple of putters that are more expensive than Scotty Cameron’s putters, a majority of Bettinardi’s putters are cheaper.

Brand  Price Range
Bettinardi  $300-$450
Scotty Cameron  $400

What Makes Bettinardi Putters & Scotty Cameron Putters So Expensive?

Two factors that make these putters quite expensive is that they are milled putters and are made in the United States. The cost of milling and domestic US labor add a substantially higher investment when making these putters. The reason that  Scotty Cameron putters are more expensive is because they have much better brand recognition and popularity, which is also factored into the price.

Which Brand Has Better Product Availability?

Ordering Online

In terms of availability, you can purchase both brands online, however you can’t buy Scotty Cameron putters on their website. More specifically, Bettinardi sells their putters directly on their site, whereas Scotty Cameron sells theirs through third-party retailers like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, etc.

Customizable Putters

What’s really cool is that each brand allows customers to make their own custom style putters. Each allows you to customize the face, back, top, length, and accessories to your liking.

However, in order to customize a Scotty Cameron putter, you must send in a putter that you already own. In other words, you can not customize a putter before you buy it, you must purchase one and then send it in to their custom shop. On the other hand, Bettinardi lets you customize your putter and then order it. So, it doesn’t matter whether or not you already own one.

How Much Does It Cost To Customize A Scotty Cameron Putter?

Something that I wanted to point out that was very surprising to me was the actual price of customizing each putter. When going through the process of customizing a putter on Scotty Cameron’s site, I pretty much maxed out all of the customizable features. With all of those customizable features, the custom Scotty Cameron putter cost approximately $520 (without shipping or insurance).

This is significantly cheaper than a custom Bettinardi putter, which starts at $2,500 (that is around an 80% difference in price!)

Putter Archives

To get a better idea of the variety offered by each brand, I took a look at their archives to see exactly how many putters each brand has made throughout their years of being in business.

Since its start in 1991, Scotty Cameron has come out with approximately 109 models of putters, which equates to a little bit under 4 putters per year. On the other hand, Bettinardi, which started making putters in 1998, has since come out with approximately 413 models, which equates to just under 19 putters per year. Clearly, Bettinardi has cranked out different putters much faster than Scotty Cameron.

Is Scotty Cameron or Bettinardi More Popular?

When comparing the two on a level of brand popularity, there is no question that Scotty Cameron is a much more recognizable brand. However, their brand popularity has less to do with the actual putter and more to do with who is using it. Each brand has had countless professionals using their clubs, the table below lists just a few.

Which Pros Use Scotty Cameron or Bettinardi?

Pros That Use Scotty Cameron Putters Pros That Use Bettinardi Putters
Jordan Spieth Matt Kuchar
Justin Thomas Jason Kokrak
Brooks Koepka Jim Herman
Rickie Fowler Fred Couples
Tiger Woods Michael Gellerman
Hideki Matsuyama Seth Reeves

In my opinion, I think Scotty Cameron does more of an A-list customer base than Bettinardi, however that is not a real indicator of which putter is better.

Which One Should You Choose: Scotty Cameron vs Bettinardi

So if you are deciding between these two, and you are still wondering which one to choose, I’ll help you out. They both offer pretty much the same features as far as performance. Both are high performance milled putters, so you’ll probably perform similarly regardless of which one you choose.

So my recommendation is this, if you are looking for a more affordable putter, then you should go with Bettinardi. However, if price is not as much of an issue and you are more so looking for a more recognizable putter that has a bit of clout and swagger, then go with a Scotty Cameron Putter.
