Essentially, by taking the average height range of most golfers and pairing that information with the average wrist-to-floor ratio (which is approximately 49% of a player’s height), you can see where most golfers will fall. This makes it very easy to deduce exactly what the most common Ping dot color is.

There is a very easy way to determine your Ping dot color. Below are 3 steps to finding the best Ping dot color for you:
- Measure your height
- Measure your wrist-to-floor length
- Locate the intersection between those to measurements
Once you locate the intersection between your height and wrist-to-floor length, that is the color dot that is best for you.
Something to note is that there is some wiggle room in determining the best color dot for you. As long as the color you pick is within 3 colors up or down of where your intersection is, the club is likely fine for you to use.
It is important that you get the correct color club as getting the wrong lie will impact your game. Getting a club that is too upright increases your chances of hitting the club near the heel. On the flip side, a lie is too flat, you have a higher likelihood of hitting the ball near the toe of the club.
If your iron is too upright, then you are likely going to be pull-hooking the ball. And if your iron is too flat, then you are going to be push-slicing the ball. Either of these scenarios is typically detrimental to your golf game.

I always like to double check with the USGA and R&A to make sure that each club I have or am planning to use is legal. I have checked for each of the ping Irons that are included in this Ping Dot article. According to the USGA, each color of the Ping iron set is legal to use in any type of golf tournament or match.

Using these color dots is the next best thing to getting your clubs fitted. Even if you’re having trouble reading the chart, you at least know what the most common choice among most golfers is.
