Believe it or not, there are actually rules that the USGA and R&A have against golf tees. While a majority of golf tees do not break the rules, there are some that are considered illegal. Are Anti Slice Golf Tees Legal? According to the USGA and R&A, Anti Slice golf tees are illegal. This means that they are non-conforming and can not be used in any casual, high-level amateur, or professional golf tournaments or games. In short, Anti Slice golf tees are not legal.

Why Are Anti Slice Golf Tees Illegal?

Not that we know that Anti Slice tees are illegal, it’s important to understand why. As mentioned above, the USGA has a few rules that golf tees must follow in order to be considered legal. Unfortunately, Anti Slice tees break one or more of these rules.

In this case, the reason why Anti Slice tees are illegal teeis because they “unduly influence the movement of the ball.”. In other words, they aid the player in manipulating the flight path of the ball, which is not allowed.

What Makes A Golf Tee Illegal?

The USGA provides 4 distinct rules that a golf tee must not break. They are laid out plain and simple and it is fairly easy to tell if a tee is legal based on these rules. 

 A tee is a device designed to raise the ball off the ground. A tee must not:

  1. Be longer than 4 inches (101.6 mm)
  2. Be designed or manufactured in such a way that it could indicate line of play
  3. Unduly influence the movement of the ball 
  4. Assist the player in making a stroke or in his play

So, there is no real debate on whether or not this type of tee is legal. However, it should be mentioned that if you are golfing by yourself, or with a group that doesn’t mind aiding equipment, then it is likely fine to use these on the course. If they help you enjoy the game more, then you shouldn’t stop yourself from using them.
