Are Bullet Golf Balls Legal?

Bullet golf balls are some of the most affordable on the market. They are great for beginners who don’t want to spend too much money on golf balls, which they will likely lose. But a lot of people wonder if these golf balls are legal. In other words, are Bullet golf balls illegal to use?

So, to figure this out, I looked at the USGA and R&A equipment database.

Are Bullet golf balls illegal? According to the USGA and R&A, Bullet golf balls are not legal. This means that you are not able to use them in any casual, high-level amateur, or professional golf outings.

In case you didn’t know, the USGA and R&A are both considered governing bodies of the golfing world. Practically all golfing organizations follow the rules that they put in place. So, everything that they say is essentially law.

Below is a screenshot of what the database results look like when looking for Bullet golf balls.

As you can see, there are no results that pop up. This suggests that political falls are not approved by the USGA or R&A. In other words, because it does not appear it is illegal. They do not list an exact reason to why it may be illegal, but it is not approved by the USGA.

What Is The USGA and R&A Equipment Database?

The USGA and R&A database is a resource that shows any and all conforming equipment. When searched, a club or brand will pop up in the database, showing that it is legal.

If a club or piece of equipment, like a golf ball, is not legal, then it will not appear in the database.

 

 

What Makes A Golf Ball Illegal?

Because the Bullet golf ball is illegal, it breaks one of the few rules that the USGA has for golf balls. Basically, there are a handful of rules that the ball must follow in order to be considered legal. 

From the USGA Equipment Rules:

  • Golf balls may have a single, concentric core with a diameter of ≤ 0.9-in
  • The ball must not be designed, manufactured or intentionally modified to have properties which differ from those of a spherically symmetrical ball
  • The weight of the ball must not be greater than 1.620 ounces avoirdupois
  • The diameter of the ball must not be less than 1.680 inches
