Are These Golf Balls Legal?

There are plenty of golf balls on the market that have big promises of changing your golf game for the better. Most of the time those golf balls are illegal. In fact, there are a ton of golf balls that you can buy that are considered illegal. So, to help you see whether or not your golf balls are legal, I put together a list of some of the more common golf balls.

I utilized information from the USGA and R&A to figure out if these golf balls are in fact legal.

Are These Golf Balls Legal?

Below is a list of some of the most commonly questioned golf balls. In other words, these are the golf ball brands that people suspect are not legal. So, to see whether or not these are legal, I checked the USGA and R&A’s conforming equipment database. Any ball below that is listed as legal is in the database, whereas any golf ball that is listed as illegal is not in the database.

What Is The USGA Conforming Ball List And R&A Database?

There are 2 resources that can be used to check on whether or not a club is legal. The first one is the USGA Conforming Golf Ball list. This is an ongoing list that keeps track of every single type of legal golf ball. Every golf ball on this list is USGA approved. Below is a screenshot of what that list looks like:

There are thousands of golf balls on this list, this screenshot is just a small sample of what is on this list. There is also additional information that you can find out about each ball such as its rating, manufacturer, etc.

The second resource that one can use to see whether or not a golf ball is legal is the R&A’s conforming equipment database. This database is a bit more user friendly. It allows you to filter for a particular category, in this case “conforming golf balls” and then you can just search for the name of the ball you want to see. Below is a screenshot of the database.

As you can see the category filter is set for “conforming balls”. This will only show conforming golf balls in the search results of the database.
