Is The Callaway FT-iQ Illegal?

The Callaway FT-iQ series of drivers are among Callaway’s square driver series. They are among some of the more popular sets of drivers from Callaway. However, there is some speculation that these clubs are illegal to use. To figure out whether or not this is true, I looked into the equipment rules and conforming clubs provided by the USGA and R&A. Below is what I found.

Is The Callaway FT-iQ Driver Illegal? According to the USGA and R&A, all versions of the Callaway FT-iQ driver are legal to use in any casual, amateur, high-level amateur, and professional rounds or tournaments. More specifically, the FT-iQ HT, Women’s I-Mix, I-Mix HT and Tour versions of the club are totally legal to use.

For those who may not know, the USGA and R&A are considered ‘governing bodies’ in the golfing world. Any type of rule or regulation that they create is considered law by all other groups and organizations. So, because both the USGA and R&A state that the FT-iQ driver is legal to use, it should be accepted by all other golf groups as legal.

USGA Conforming Club List: Callaway FT-iQ Driver

One of the best resources to use to see whether or not a club is illegal is the USGA conforming club list. This list is a frequently updated PDF of every single legal club, except for putters.

I did a quick search on this list, and it is clear that all versions of the FT-iQ driver are legal. Below is a screenshot from that PDF list.

Along with the manufacturer, product name, available lofts, there is also another section that references the identification marks of each club. These identification marks include hosel information, sole information, etc.

For anyone that is interested, or wants to go more into the nitty-gritty details of each club, this is a great section to take a look at.

R&A Conforming Club Database: Callaway FT-iQ Driver

Another incredibly helpful resource is the R&A conforming club database. This resource is very similar to the USGA PDF list, except it is a bit more user-friendly in the way you search for the golf clubs.

By searching for the name of the club and filtering for “conforming drivers”. As you can see, there are 13 versions of the FT-iQ that are considered legal. If you are interested in finding out more information on each club, there is a ‘more details’ button when you hover over each club. This option allows you to view the details of each club.

Final Thoughts: Callaway FT-iQ Illegal

So, if you were interested in purchasing this club or putting it into your bag, you can do so without any second thoughts. This club is totally legal to use, and will likely remain that way for quite some time. If anyone questions your FT-iQ and its legality, you can just point them to either of these two resources to show them that it is in fact legal.
