Gone are the days when it wasn’t uncommon to spot a news anchor smoking on air. It turns out that most people weren’t really fans of watching people smoke cigarettes while reading out the news of the day. Although, they often had little choice. Many smoking companies required the anchors to smoke for advertising purposes. Being a news anchor is an incredibly stressful job. While you won’t spot news anchors smoking live on TV, many are doing it on a day-to-day basis.
Here, we are going to tell you about some of the female news anchors who smoke cigarettes.
7 Female News Anchors Who Smoke Cigarettes
- Naga Munchetty
- Robin Roberts
- Shereen Bhan
- Randi Kaye
- Amber Lyon
- Palki Sharma
- Alex Jones
Naga Munchetty
Working for the BBC, Naga Munchetty enjoys unwinding with a cigarette when she is done presenting her morning breakfast show. it isn’t uncommon for her to see her heading out to smoke, or even drink, with her co-anchors. Naga Munchetty is proof of how difficult it is to find female news anchors who smoke cigarettes. The only time people knew she smoked is when she ended up being snapped for The Express newspaper in the UK, and it was hardly a breaking news story.
Robin Roberts
Robin Roberts is best known as the anchor for ABC’s Good Morning America. While it is unknown if she smokes now, there are plenty of stories from her ‘wild’ years at college where she would dabble with a cigarette or two. If she was smoking when she was in college, it was likely that she was smoking when she first started out in her journalism career. Although, once again, these people are not being snapped in public smoking, since it is really a waste of time for any photographers to capture them. They aren’t doing anything wrong.
Shereen Bhan
Not only is Shereen Bhan a smoker, but she is probably the only person on this list that has actively smoked on TV. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of Shereen Bhan before. She is a famous Indian news anchor, probably one of the more famous female news anchors in the country. While she only works for CNBC in India, it isn’t uncommon to find her featured on CNBC news broadcasts in the US when something related to India needs to be discussed on air. She has even interviewed Bill Gates live on TV for CNBC.
Randi Kaye
Randi Kaye works for CNN. She has only done a small amount of anchoring, with most of her time now being spent doing investigative journalism. A few years ago, she decided to celebrate New Year’s Eve, live on CNN, with a marijuana bong in her hands. As you can probably imagine, this caused quite a stir among the public who aren’t massive fans of that (including some Fox News anchors). However, that was marijuana. There is some indication that she smokes cigarettes in private, although she has yet to be snapped smoking.
Amber Lyon
Again, this is a person that has anchored only a few times in her life. The rest of the time, Amber Lyon is also working as an investigative journalist. She regularly posts about how much she smokes marijuana (and allows her staff to do so), and there have been mutterings that she smokes cigarettes too, although there has yet to be any official confirmation of that.
Palki Sharma
Smoking is much more accepted in Indian culture than it is in American culture, and Palki Sharma is another Indian news anchor that has spoken about her love of smoking. She has even talked heavily about how there is a tradition in the newsrooms that she has been in to smoke. While she hasn’t explicitly stated that she is a smoker, it is quite easy to read between the lines.
Alex Jones
Alex Jones is a female presenter from Wales. While she no longer does much in the way of news presenting, she has done so in the past, putting together a few Saturday breakfast morning shows. While it is unknown if she smokes regularly, she has been caught enjoying a celebratory cigarette.
These are the only female news anchors where there is evidence that they may be smokers. As we said, this is a business where not a lot of people talk about these habits. You will likely find that female news anchors are much more against smoking than for it, although this applies throughout the whole of the media industry.
