Ping Glide 3.0 vs Vokey SM8

Both the Ping Glide 3.0 anda Vokey SM8 are some of the more popular wedge sets out there. Not only do both cater to casual players, but there are plenty of high-level players that use these clubs too. But if you are looking at which one is better, how do they compare?

Loft: Ping Glide 3.0 vs Vokey SM8

In terms of loft options, the Vokey SM8 offers significantly more variety when compared to the Ping Glide 3.0. More specifically, the Ping Glide 3.0 has 5 different loft options for their clubs while the Vokey SM8 has 9 different loft options for theirs.

What this means is that, depending on what loft you typically prefer, you can get a set of clubs that is more tailored to what you like. You are a bit limited when it comes to the Ping Glide 3.0. So, if you are someone who likes a wider variety of lofts to pick from, or you generally prefer 48 or 62 degrees of loft, then the Vokey SM8 is better for you.

Length: Ping Glide 3.0 vs Vokey SM8

As for length, the Vokey SM8 also offers much more variety when compared to the Ping Glide 3.0. They each offer 35.00”, 35.25” and 35.50” options, however, the Vokey SM8 offers a 35.75” option as well. While this may not seem like a crazy difference, it could impact someone’s game.

If you are someone who typically prefers a 35.75” shaft, then it is best to go with the Vokey SM8. Having the correct size shaft will allow you to be more accurate, thus helping your game overall.

The only real similarity between these two is that they have a lie of 64 degrees. In other words, no matter which club you are using, you are going to get the same type of lie angle. No matter  which kind of lie you prefer, you are going to get the same for each of these.

The final difference between these two are in the swing weight. Both offer a swing weight of D3. However, when looking at the other options, the Ping Glide 3.0 has a D2 option, whereas the Vokey SM8 has a swing weight of D5. This is a substantial difference, about .21 ounces. More swing weight means that you are going to need more swing speed to generate the same amount of distance.

More weight also means that you are more likely to hit an accurate shot, as it is harder to veer away from your swing path with a heavier club.
