Two of the most popular golf bags made by Ping are the Hoofer and the Hoofer lite. While similar in name, they are a bit different in their design. If you are deciding between the two, it can be quite difficult to know which one is better for you. So, to help you out, I compared the specs of each bag. By the end of this article, you should have a much better idea as to which one is best for you.

Weight | 5.5 lbs | 5 lbs |
Pockets | 16 | 9 |
Top | 5 way | 4 way |
Pocket Volume | 22L | 19L |
Weight: Ping Hoofer vs Hoofer Lite
One of the biggest factors in picking the right golf bag is the weight. For the most part, people want a bag that is lightweight as there will be walking nine or 18 holes with it. So between the Hoofer and the Hoofer Lite, which one is lighter?
The Hoofer Lite is lighter than the Hoofer. More specifically, it is around half a pound lighter. While it may not seem like much of a difference, you will likely notice it after a couple of hours walking with it.
Again, this is just one of many factors that play into the differences between these two bags, however this could be the maker break for you. If you are someone who prefers a lighter golf bag than the Hoofer Lite is best for you.
Pockets: Ping Hoofer vs Hoofer Lite
Another big factor is the amount of pockets that each golf bag has. Depending on how many golf accessories (tees, balls, snacks, etc.) that you carry around, the amount of pockets is quite important.
The Hoofer has 16 pockets and the Hoofer Lite has 9 pockets. This means that the Hoofer has 5 more pockets than the Lite version.
This is a pretty substantial difference. As mentioned above, if you are someone who typically carries around a lot of different belongings and accessories in your golf bag, then he will likely need a bag with more pockets.
Pocket Volume: Ping Hoofer vs Hoofer Lite
To get a bit more technical, I took a look at the overall volume that the pockets had in each bag. This is essentially how much stuff all of the pockets can hold combined.
Unsurprisingly, the Ping Hoofer has about 3 more liters of space. Basically, because the Hoofer has more pockets, it also has more pocket space/volume.
This doubles down on the point made above that if you prefer a bag that has more room for you to store things, then the Hoofer is right for you.

For those who are primarily concerned with club organization and tidiness, then this will be important for you to know. The amount of holes that the golf bag has at the top impacts how your clubs are organized.
Some people like to group their clubs, and others like to have an individual slot for each. In the case between these two bags, the Hoofer has 5 holes at the top, and the Hoofer lite has 4.
This basically means that you can be a little bit more organized with the Hoofer and comparison to the Hoofer Lite. If club tidiness is a factor for you, the end of the Hoofer is likely a better bag.
Legality: Ping Hoofer vs Hoofer Lite
Something that is always good to mention when comparing golf bags is the legal parameters involving them. The USGA and R&A states that you may only have a maximum of 14 clubs in your bag at a given time, when playing.
While both of these bags have more than enough room to store more than 14 clubs, it violates the golf equipment rules. So keep this in mind once you purchase a bag.
